Driving the Valley’s Economic Success

The Tennessee Valley is the second-largest automobile manufacturing region in the country, with approximately 90,000 automotive industry jobs. The Valley is centrally located in the southern United States, the world’s third-largest economy.

The region

• More than 800 industrial sites and 750 existing buildings are available in the 80,000-square-mile TVA service area.

• The labor force includes more than 900,000 employed machine operators and fabricators and half a million production workers. The regional population is 8.6 million.

• Reliable, affordable electricity is supplied by TVA, one of the nation’s largest power systems, with 99.999 percent reliability for the past six years.

• The transportation network includes 11 interstate highways, eight major railways, 15 commercial airports, and multiple options for air freight.

• The region’s inland waterway system has 800 commercially navigable miles with eight deep-water ports. Fifty million tons of goods are shipped annually through public and private terminals.

The industry

• The region is home to four automotive OEMs: General Motors, Nissan North America, Peterbilt, and Saturn.

• More than 3,000 automotive suppliers are in the region, including the top 10 in North America: Delphi, Visteon, Magna, Johnson Controls, Lear, Robert Bosch, Dana, Denso, TRW, and ArvinMeritor.

• The new headquarters of Nissan North America is in Franklin, Tennessee, outside Nashville.
