Nashville Bun to expand Nashville plant
The Nashville Bun Company has announced plans to expand its baked-goods manufacturing plant in Nashville, Tenn.
Following a search for suitable pre-existing buildings or sites, the woman-owned company announced that it instead will invest $7 million on a 25,000-square-foot addition to its existing facility. President and CEO Cordia Harrington said the addition will house energy efficient equipment imported from the Netherlands with the capability to produce 2,000 biscuits a minute. Nashville Bun will hire 100 new workers to operate the new machinery.
Entrepreneur Harrington started her business as a Middle Tennessee bakery and has grown it into a multimillion dollar company making buns, English muffins and biscuits for McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Odom’s Tennessee Pride and others.
TVA’s Regional Development Specialist Jerome Terrell worked with Nashville Bun Company, Nashville Electric Service, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and the State of Tennessee to help make the expansion happen.
Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Bill Hagerty called the project “a perfect example of how economic development is a dynamic and evolving process. Throughout the past decade the company has shown that you must continually adjust your business strategies and look for new marketplace opportunities to maintain relevance and ensure continued success."
