TVA ranks in top 10 economic development utilities for fifth straight year
Sept. 2, 2010 – Site Selection magazine has named TVA one of the top 10 economic development utilities in North America for the fifth year in a row. TVA is one of only three utilities named to the top 10 in each of the last five years.
The honor is based on achievements in economic development in 2009. Last year TVA and the distributors of TVA power, working with state and local partners in the seven-state TVA service region, helped attract or retain more than 26,000 jobs.
TVA and its partners leveraged more than $4 billion in capital investment in 2009, including a $1 billion plant under construction by Wacker Chemie AG for the manufacture of polycrystalline silicon, a material used in solar panels and electronics.
“Being recognized by Site Selection magazine for the fifth consecutive year is definitely a win for all of our economic development partners,” says John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of Economic Development. “This economic development success is the result of teamwork between distributors of TVA power, state agencies, and economic, industrial, and community leaders across the TVA service region.”
The annual ranking is based on capital investment, job creation, capital investment per capita and jobs per 10,000 in population. More broadly, the designation indicates the degree to which TVA and the other honorees complement power delivery with the ability to foster corporate investment in their territories.
