July 23, 2009 – Mississippi Steel Processing will locate a new steel processing center at the Golden Triangle Industrial Park in Lowndes County, just outside Columbus, Miss. The new plant will be adjacent to the Severstal steel mini-mill. It will purchase steel coils from Severstal and cut them to the mill's specifications.

Mississippi Steel plans to break ground in September 2009. The project represents an investment of $15 million and will initially provide 50 jobs to area residents. The company is building a 160,000-square-foot plant north of Severstal in the industrial park.

Partners assisting with this project include the 4-County Electric Power Association, Columbus Lowndes Development Link, Lowndes County Board of Supervisors, Mississippi Development Authority, Appalachian Regional Commission, and TVA.
