Tier-1 VW supplier announces Chattanooga plant

June 26, 2009 – Global supplier Gestamp Corporation has announced plans to build a $90 million plant to supply the new VW facility in Chattanooga. It is the first tier-1 supplier for the $1 billion VW operation.

A subsidiary of a Spanish corporation based in Madrid, Gestamp Corporation will build structural components for the new mid-sized sedan VW has designed for the U.S. market. The facility will be located on the west side of the Enterprise South Industrial Park where VW is building its plant. Gestamp expects to create 230 jobs within three years.

Economic development partners on the project included EPB (Electric Power Board of Chattanooga), Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, City of Chattanooga, Hamilton County, and TVA.
