Five Star Custom Foods to open Nashville plant

April 14, 2009 – Five Star Custom Foods, a Texas company providing specialty meats and sauces for food-service chains and grocery manufacturers, will expand into the Southeast market by opening a $20 million plant in Nashville.

Five Star is converting a former food distribution facility to a plant where it will manufacture cooked meat products. The renovation is scheduled for completion by early fall 2009. About 75 to 100 new employees will be needed initially at the plant, and the company expects to add a total of 250 more positions within three years.

A recognized leader in the production of precooked meat ingredients, Five Star currently employs about 250 at its only other plant, located in Fort Worth.

“Nashville is a vibrant, forward-thinking community with a pro-business attitude,” said Five Star President Jeff Bledsoe. “Logistically, the Nashville location is geographically advantageous for both raw material acquisition and finished product customer shipments.”

“Five Star Custom Foods’ announcement provides great opportunities for their company and the residents of Nashville-area communities,” said John Bradley, TVA senior vice president of economic development. “We are pleased to partner with state and Nashville-area economic development leaders to help companies like Five Star grow and prosper in our region.”
