TVAsites.com praised for quality information, ease of use
Nov. 17, 2008 — A leading site selection consultant has named TVA's sites and buildings database, TVAsites.com, among the top economic development web sites for the variety of information it offers and the ease and flexibility of its search function.
Writing in a recent issue of Site Selection, John Warden, executive vice president and co-founder of the Walker Companies, an Atlanta-based consulting firm, praised TVAsites.com for its geographic information system (GIS) capabilities and capacity to pinpoint key search criteria such as transportation infrastructure.
"A good Web site should be able to easily define the geography in which you want to do your search with landmarks, transportation infrastructure, major cities, ports and airports – all the kinds of things people want to be close to," Warden says. "Ideally, it would have a map you can point to."
In his survey of economic development web sites, Warden said he found that utility companies generally have the best ones.
TVAsites.com was launched by TVA in 2004 to provide readily accessible information to site selection consultants and corporate executives seeking to relocate or expand. It earned top honors among special purpose web sites from the International Economic Development Council in 2006.
