The Shoals recognized as Targeted and Prepared community

Oct. 21, 2008 — Boyette Levy, an Atlanta economic development consulting firm, has recognized the Shoals community and Shoals Economic Development Authority for their participation in the Valley Targeted and Prepared Community Program (TaP). The Shoals is a two-county area in northwest Alabama consisting of Colbert and Lauderdale counties.

Developed by TVA and local power distributors, the TaP Program helps communities enhance their economic and community development efforts. Boyette Levy provides strategic advice and communications support for the program.

"Our findings show that the best targeted business opportunities for the Shoals include aerospace-aviation suppliers, automotive suppliers, foreign direct investment, and retirement services," said Del Boyette, a principal of Boyette Levy. He cited the transportation network, institutions of higher learning, and dedicated leadership as major assets that will help the community attract and grow businesses.

"TVA applauds the Shoals for their successful completion of this strategic planning process," said TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development John Bradley. "It helps prepare the community for continued economic success."

The Shoals was one of three Tennessee Valley communities to participate in the TaP program this year. The program includes an in-depth evaluation of a community’s resources and strengths to target and recruit specific industry segments, which could bring additional jobs and investments.
