Dow Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor choose Tennessee Megasite
Dec. 15, 2008 – Dow Corning Corporation and Hemlock Semiconductor (HSC) have announced they will build a semiconductor plant on the 1,215-acre Commerce Park Megasite in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The plant will serve the needs of the emerging solar technology industry. It will be a $1.2 billion investment and bring 500 or more initial direct jobs and about 1,000 construction jobs to the region.
HSC, headquartered in Hemlock, Michigan, is a joint venture of Dow Corning and two Japan-based firms. Also announced was a $1 billion expansion of current operations in Michigan.
"TVA is excited about Dow Corning Corporation and Hemlock Semiconductor's location announcement on the Commerce Park Megasite," says John Bradley, TVA Senior Vice President of Economic Development. "This huge success proves once again that being prepared, such as going through the diligent Megasites certification process, gives a location an advantage. The State of Tennessee, Clarksville-Montgomery County EDC, and community leaders have been preparing for this client for 2 ½ years."
Austin Peay State University and TVA were also partners in the project.
