Yutaka Technologies to build Alabama plant
February 8, 2007 — Tier-one Honda supplier Yutaka Technologies will build a plant in Cullman, Alabama, to manufacture torque converters and exhaust system parts for the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama plant in Lincoln.
Yutaka will build the 168,000-square-foot plant on a 75-acre site in Cullman's industrial Park V. The $50 million facility, which is expected to provide 200 jobs, will be known as Alabama Cullman Yutaka Technologies.
Yutaka president and CEO Masaru Takabayashi said Cullman's location was a primary factor in the decision. The plant will be near the interstate and only about an hour's drive from the Honda plant in Lincoln. Other factors in the city's favor, according to Takabayashi, were the existing manufacturing structure and the area's well-qualified work force. Production is expected to begin in November.
TVA assisted Cullman Electric Cooperative, the North Alabama Industrial Development Association, the Cullman City Economic Development Office, and the Alabama Development Office on the project.
Yutaka Technologies was founded in Japan and opened a plant in Cardington, Ohio, in 1996. The company also has a plant in South Carolina.
