Toyota supplier announces Mississippi plant

Aug. 31, 2007 — Toyota Boshoku Corporation has announced it will build an $80 million facility near Fulton, Mississippi, to supply the Toyota SUV plant under construction in Tupelo.

Toyota Boshoku will initially employ 500 people and anticipates hiring up to 1,000 in Phase II of the project. The plant will provide seats, door panels, and carpet for the Toyota Highlander SUV.

To demonstrate its commitment to the local community, the company will make a $20,000 donation to workforce training and development programs at Itawamba Community College, said Kiyoshi "Nate" Furuta, Chairman and CEO of Toyota Boshoku America.

The Mississippi Development Authority, Itawamba County Development Council, North Mississippi Industrial Development Authority, Tombigbee Electric Power Association, and TVA all played an active role in the project.
