Five Valley states among top 10 nationwide in worker training

August 23, 2006 — Five states in the TVA service area have placed among the top 10 nationwide in Expansion Management magazine's annual ranking of state workforce training programs. Alabama earned the top slot, followed by Georgia at No. 2, North Carolina (4), Tennessee (7), and Kentucky (8).

The magazine polled 80 corporate site consultants for their evaluations of state programs. The programs were judged on their financial value, ease of use, and applicability.

“Having a ready supply of educated and trainable workers is still the No. 1 priority for any business executive who is considering opening up a new facility,” said Expansion Management's editor, Bill King. “Any assistance a company can receive from state and local governments to meet its initial training needs may play a decisive role when that company is down to its short list of two or three competing locations and must make its final decision.”

See Expansion Management for more about the rankings and a list of worker training programs by state.
